For this week’s Tuesday Thingers topic, Boston Bibliophile has some questions about favorite authors, as well as a little photo project:
Who do you have named in your LT account as favorite authors? Why did you choose them? How many people share your choices? Can you share a picture of one of them?
Well, first of all – I have a lot of favorite authors listed. Too many to name here. I’m not going to count them, but I’m sure there are over a hundred. And I chose them . . . because they’re my favorite authors! But also because when I was doing the list, I had just signed up for LT’s Early Reviewer program, and I had a theory that a lengthy list of favorites might help my chances when the mighty algorithm was applied. Don’t know how many people share my choices. Probably a lot. My list is fairly eclectic.
And for a photo, I’ll share this one of Barbara Pym, “borrowed” from the back of the dust jacket to A Very Private Eye: An Autobiography in Diaries and Letters, edited by Hazel Holt and Barbara’s sister Hilary Pym. I did check out how many other LT members share my Pym enthusiasm. Forty-six. Should be more.

I had to go count mine after you said you had quite a few. I counted 80 favourite authors listed on my LT page. So I don't feel so alone any more. I have not experienced Pym yet though.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have any listed until I read today's questions. I'm sure I'll be adding more.
ReplyDeleteI had completely forgotten this feature even existed! I think my list would either have to be very short (authors with lots of books in my library) or HUGE (authors who've written one book I really enjoyed). Nothing in between.
ReplyDeleteI don't have too many listed myself. I've never read anything by Barbara Pym - in fact, I don't think I've even heard of her before!
ReplyDeleteNever even entered my mind that a fave author list could be important to getting ER books. Must not be though because for the longest time I only had a couple listed and I lucked out in getting books quite a few times.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about favorite authors in conjunction with the Almighty Algorithm. Hmmm....
ReplyDeleteHa...I'm still chuckling over your alogarithm comment. You never mentioned if your theory worked. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's a slew of favorites!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, over a hundred!?! You go! I admire you for being able to update. For me, out of sight, out of mind...lol!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was looking at how many people had some of my favorites, I was really surprised at how low some of the numbers were. Kate Dicamillo only has 13 fans? Really? I guess I have to consider that not everyone on LT uses this particular feature, but I still amazed at some of the stats.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you have a wonderful favorite list (even if I don't). You've sold me on Barbara Pym. Can't wait to dive in! Thanks!
ReplyDelete100 Authors? I am impressed.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everybody, for dropping by. And for putting up with my Barbara Pym fetish! And, no, I don't really think the Mighty Algorithm pays any attention to lists of favorites. Although, I've been pretty lucky about getting Early Reviewer books, so who knows.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I remember trying to figure out what would make me a more appealing candidate for ER!
