2023 Reading Challenges

The 2023 reading challenges have been turning up for a while now, though I'm just starting to take notice. (Old and slow just go together, don't they?)  I'm not sure I'll be keeping a very thorough list this year, but at least I can make a stab at it.

The list is in roughly alphabetical order,
with links to announcement/signup posts.
(Check marks will indicate challenges I've signed up for.)

Notes and Caveats:

  • The challenges listed are, in general (it's not a strict rule), year-long challenges, open to everyone. I don't usually list read-a-thons, read-alongs, "personal" challenges, or challenges linked to special days or time periods.
  • This list is NOT meant to be a complete list of ALL the reading challenges available for 2023. It's mainly just challenges that seem attractive to me. And I'm not necessarily recommending any of these — just keeping track.
  • I will not be signing up for ALL these challenges! I'm sure I'll be joining in for a few, but definitely not all. (See the challenges I'm participating in HERE.)
  • In general I'm not a fan of the "check list" type of reading challenge with a bunch of set categories — so I'll list a few, but not every one of them. And I definitely prefer challenges that let participants choose their own books.
  • I don't do a lot of social media hanging out, so if a challenge is being hosted primarily on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram, you probably won't find it on this list.
  • PLEASE NOTE: I really don't like to deal with a lot of ads on the blogs I read. So if challenges are hosted by ad-heavy websites, they might not make it to this list.

For a much more comprehensive, up-to-date list of 2023 Reading Challenges, you can check the Reading Challenge Addict website.

    1. Hi, Jamie. Thanks for pointing the way to this challenge. Actually, though, there are so many "check-list" type challenges out there like this one, I decided not to include them in this list. I sort of think of them as personal reading goals-lists which, while they are definitely valuable tools, tend to differ from individual to individual. I thought about including the POP-Sugar list, since it seems to be the most popular, but in the end just decided to do a separate listing of all the checklists -- I just never got around to it!

One snag though: Hippes Read Too's blog is giving me a 404 error. http://readingeveryseason.hippiesreadtoo.com/2015/11/warm-up-for-winter-reading-challenge.html

  15. Joy, I hope I can entice you to any of my 4 this time! As always: they run February 1 to January 31, so finishing them off never takes up time at Christmas! :) Sincere thanks for listing me again! Gratefully, Carolyn Of RIEDEL Fascination.

  16. I am unsure how often you pick up messages at Goodreads. Even though Blogspot does not make commenting easy for Wordpress or rural internet and rejects them, if there is a captcha; I had better see about adding my 3/4 2019 groups that are ready.

It makes a nice crossover with other "read the globe" or "books in translation" challenges. And we'd love to see you back. Welcome and thanks for leaving me a comment. I love to hear from visitors.

Also, please note that while I appreciate the thought, I don't play the blog awards game. I think you all deserve awards! But you might think about becoming a follower of my blog -- that would really be the best award.
