Booking Through Thursday: Disaster!

This week's BTT question: You’ve just dropped your favorite, out-of-print book into a bathtub, ruining it completely … What do you do now?

If I lost a favorite book to some disaster (watery or otherwise), I would first of all probably swear a lot. Then I'd be very depressed – maybe even shed a few tears. Then I'd start looking online for a replacement – ABE Books, Amazon, eBay – all the usual places. I might also check the used-book stores in this area, although there aren't many of those left.

But I take showers, so I would never be presented with the problem of books dropped in the bath.

And if I did take baths, my favorite out-of-print book would never come near the water.

  1. Really! I would never take a favorite book near the tub. The two or three times I tried to read in the tub I always forgot to keep my hands dry and damaged my book. Silly Marie. What's the point? Just cause it looks cute in the movies when people do it, doesn't mean it works well in real life!

  2. This scenario sounds like something I'd do- I love to read in the bath. I prefer to read magazines though, it doesn't matter if they get wet!

  3. I hope I'm not jinxing myself, but I've never had a problem when reading in the bath. I keep the towel nearby so I can dry my hands and read the book and I keep it well above water LOL!

  5. Joy...you are right...it would never be near water. Matter of fact might be encased in glass and displayed.

  6. This wouldn't be a problem for me either since I shower rather than bathe. We've lived in this house for 3 years and the bathtub's been used one time.

  7. I would never read in the tub...don't people know that is where most home accidents occur? Why would they want to endanger a book like that? Here's My BTT.

  8. I don't read in the bath either (don't even have a tub). And if I did, I certainly wouldn't choose the more valuable kind to read in the water...

  9. I've never lost any books to water damage. I have bought quite a few library books by dropping them in the pool though!

  10. Great answer :) I'd never bring a favorite out of print book near water anyway.

  11. I adore your blog header! How clever to use bookmarks! Are these all yours? I probably have that many...and more!

So true...if I took baths instead of showers, my fave out of print book would certainly not be anywhere near the tub!

  12. I don't take a book with me in the tub, I shower also. I did get a book wet a few weeks ago while shopping I bought some books, threw them in the back seat of the car on the floor. One was not in the bag, and for some reason, of which we do not know, the floor was wet, therefore part of the book got wet. I dried it out and read it a few weeks ago.

  13. I am a total bathtub reader, but I wouldn't get anywhere near water with an out-of-print book. Nice post!

Welcome and thanks for leaving me a comment. I love to hear from visitors.

Also, please note that while I appreciate the thought, I don't play the blog awards game. I think you all deserve awards! But you might think about becoming a follower of my blog -- that would really be the best award.
