This week I've been reading (and loving) Becky Masterman's second Brigid Quinn thriller, Fear the Darkness (Minotaur Books, 2015). Here are the first couple of lines:
There is near complete darkness yes, but it's the least of my problems. I'd glimpsed the space before I got in, and knew the claustrophobic dimensions that would have kept me from moving easily even if I hadn't been shot in the leg.Initial thoughts:
In the dark, shot in the leg. What's not to like, right? This one started strong and just kept rolling. Hope to get a short review up soon.
Rose City Reader hosts Book Beginnings on Fridays. As she says, the idea is to post the first sentence (or so) of the book you're currently reading, along with any first impressions or thoughts you have about the book, the author, etc. It's a wonderful way of adding new books to your must-read list, and a chance to connect with other readers and bloggers.
That's a great opening. So many things to make me want to know more!
ReplyDeleteMy Friday post features MIDDLE-AGED CRAZY.
This sounds super intense - like you said, what's not to like! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my 56 with Book Beginnings.
Why was she shot in the leg? And why wasn't she more panicked about it?

Ooh intriguing. This one sounds right up my alley too. :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a great opening because you get dropped right in the action and just want to know what has happened. I would probably be on the floor crying though if I got shot in the leg! I'm glad you enjoyed this one! Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a great weekend!
