This week my teaser lines come from the new biography of Queen Elizabeth II, Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch, by Sally Bedell Smith. It was an early reviewer book from Library Thing that got delayed, so even though it's been out a while I'm just getting to it. Looks interesting -- and as it's over 700 pages long, I'll likely be reading it all spring. This bit comes from page xvii of the Preface:
The routine of the Queen's life -- outlined a year ahead, mapped in detail six months in advance -- has been practical and reassuring. One of her friends, John Julius Cooper, the 2nd Viscount Norwich, jokingly said the secret of her equanimity might be "never having to look for a parking place."Don't you suppose the humongous fortune has something to do with it, too?

I think I'd like this. And yes, I think her fortune likely plays a role in her equanimity. :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting that there is another book out about the queen. I have The Real Elizabeth by Andrew Marr, in honor of her 60th annniversary as queen. Would love to know how these books compare.
ReplyDeleteI honestly would like to read this book...she intrigues me and I'm one of those OCD people who would love to have their lives mapped out for them six months in advance...I"m weird!
ReplyDeleteVery fitting and very cute Teaser for the Queen of England.
ReplyDeleteI read a little of this in Barnes and Noble and have it on reserve in the library. She is a fascinating woman.
ReplyDeleteThis one sounds fascinating...I do enjoy memoirs and probing into the lives of people with equanimity...
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog.
Interesting book!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a book I'd enjoy. Thanks for posting a teaser from it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, too, for your comment on my Teaser.
It would be good not having to look for parking, but I think I'd hate to be that organized!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she has any fun? I do think she would be interesting to read about. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much for memoires, but she is certainly a fascinating personality. Thanks for visiting!
