Book Beginnings: The Night Sister

The Night Sister, by Jennifer McMahon (Doubleday, August 2015). These are the book's opening lines:
Amy's heart hammers, and her skin is slick with sweat.
Focus, she tells herself.
Don't think about the thing in the tower.

Initial Thoughts:

But maybe Amy should be thinking about the thing in the tower!

So far, I love it. Any book that begins with THINGs in towers is a book I feel I should read. Hope the rest of the book can live up to that opening.

I've never read anything by Jennifer McMahon, but I've got several of her earlier books on my TBR list. Looking forward to getting started on this one.

Rose City Reader hosts Book Beginnings on Fridays. As she says, the idea is to post the first sentence (or so) of the book you're currently reading, along with any first impressions or thoughts you have about the book, the author, etc.  It's a wonderful way of adding new books to your must-read list, and a chance to connect with other readers and bloggers.

  1. I agree, anything that opens with things in towers can't be all bad. LOL This sounds like one for me. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I have looked at this one but things in towers scare me! I have read one of this author's books and it was scary. Maybe I will try this one -- I enjoyed the other one and, I mean, the thing can't really hurt me!

  3. Well, that sounds intense! Thanks for sharing!

Check out my Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings).

  4. I've been eyeing this book, too, even though my first experience with this author was not enjoyable (Dismantled). This book sounds more to my liking. Thanks for sharing, and enjoy.

Here's mine: “ALL THE SUMMER GIRLS”

  5. I'm definitely pro- things in the tower though they do not seem like things you should forget about! This looks fun and creepy so I'll have to go look for this one. Hope you enjoy it!

  6. Fun read. I hope you enjoy your book. I missed making comments yesterday. I had to take the dog to the doggie emergency room. Sigh. My Friday Quotes

  7. Sounds good and scary.

I have this book...will have to "dig it out."

ENJOY your book and your weekend.

Also, please note that while I appreciate the thought, I don't play the blog awards game. I think you all deserve awards! But you might think about becoming a follower of my blog -- that would really be the best award.
