Those of us who are not from those times need to hear about them from those who are.

KittyCat
http://RightReads.comKittyCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06787368700006465340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20402592.post-46584029118651418332008-09-11T18:34:00.000-05:002008-09-11T18:34:00.000-05:00So many people have said they read to escape from ...So many people have said they read to escape from life. I can't imagine life without reading, so it's never been an escape for. Reading is part of being alive.

Television is for escape.

That said, the 9-11 attacks have not really affected what I watch on television. I still don't watch that much of it. Maybe they have, I don't watch any "news" program that involves "experts" shouting at each other anymore. I used to like that sort of program, too.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06906212382849291562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20402592.post-47893885394386032792008-09-11T17:53:00.000-05:002008-09-11T17:53:00.000-05:00Re: "I’ve mostly stayed away from books that are d...Re: "I’ve mostly stayed away from books that are directly inspired by the terrorist attacks, or deal with them specifically."

I don't actively seek out such books, but I seem to stumble upon books that use those events in some way. Recently, for example, I picked up Ian McEwan's Saturday at a used book sale. Really I'd only wanted any McEwan book because I hadn't read him before, but it begins with a sighting of a plane in flames and the main character reflecting on 9/11. I suspect there'll be almost as much literature (and other art) to come out of that event as there's been about either of the World Wars.John Mutfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08730205221787092204noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20402592.post-85523793644143308062008-09-11T13:11:00.000-05:002008-09-11T13:11:00.000-05:00I certainly don't feel as safe and composed as bef...I certainly don't feel as safe and composed as before. There's always that ominous silence, that dread right before take-off in the plane. But I do appreciate the added security measures that ensure our safety.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20402592.post-46290102986449930672008-09-11T09:59:00.000-05:002008-09-11T09:59:00.000-05:00I completely agree - I'm totally an escapist reade...I completely agree - I'm totally an escapist reader.

Here are my thoughts.S. Sometimes books can help us understand current events, but most of the time I stick to escapism.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20402592.post-77097400908137924242008-09-11T07:17:00.000-05:002008-09-11T07:17:00.000-05:00Interesting answer. I don't remember some of the events you describe, but now that I've lived through 9/11 I'll probably never be quite as shocked again.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20402592.post-62304191832762413852008-09-11T07:12:00.000-05:002008-09-11T07:12:00.000-05:00Escape is a good reason to read.Escape is a good reason to read.SmilingSallyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10479373067844173653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20402592.post-77156935451989585442008-09-11T06:54:00.000-05:002008-09-11T06:54:00.000-05:00Your last paragraph really resonated with me...agr...Your last paragraph really resonated with me...agreed!Jillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01790372684512429774noreply@blogger.com
