This week my teaser lines come from Anna Quindlen's new novel, Miller's Valley (Random House, April 2016). This snippet comes from the Prologue (page 5, or Location 76 of the Kindle edition):
...Donald's grandfather held his file in front of him like a shield and said, "Miriam, I don't think you understand the situation." But that wasn't true. My mother always understood the situation. Any situation.
"I figure by my breathing I'll be gone by Sunday," she said years later when she was dying, and she was right on schedule. This will be my introduction to Anna Quindlen -- I've never read anything by her before. So I don't know exactly what to expect, but I'm looking forward to getting acquainted. I sort of wish it had a more interesting cover, but since I'm actually reading it on my Kindle, I guess that doesn't really matter so much.
