Teaser Tuesdays: The Burgess Boys

This week my teaser lines come from The Burgess Boys, by Elizabeth Strout.  The book came out earlier this year, and the publishers were nice enough to send me a copy.  But what with one thing and another, I'm just now getting around to reading it.  In fact, I just opened it for the first time this morning and started browsing the pages -- so I'm not really sure what's going on here.  I'm pretty sure this is a mother talking to her son, though.
"Go shower," she said. "And put on nice clothes."
"What's nice clothes?" he asked.
"A shirt with a collar. And no jeans."
"No jeans?"  This was not defiant, but worried.
"Okay. Jeans without holes." [p.33]
Actually, that could be me talking to the hubby!

Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by mizB at Should Be Reading. If you'd like to read more teasers, or take part yourself, just head on over to her blog.

And please feel free to leave me a link to your Teaser Tuesday post in your comment here.

  1. I've been noticing this one, but now I'm really curious. Love that exchange between mother and son. It has a familiar ring...lol

  3. Great and realistic conversation! You're right -- it's probably a mom talking to her son.
My Teaser is from THROUGH A YELLOW WOOD.

  4. No, that is definitely me talking to my teenage son. DEFINITELY.

  5. I am listening to this book and am really enjoying it.

Welcome and thanks for leaving me a comment. I love to hear from visitors.

Also, please note that while I appreciate the thought, I don't play the blog awards game. I think you all deserve awards! But you might think about becoming a follower of my blog -- that would really be the best award.
