Teaser Tuesdays: From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler

This week I'm taking my teaser lines from the classic children's book, From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, written by E.L. Konigsburg who died last Friday.  I read this one for the first time a few years ago and really enjoyed it, so in honor of Konigsburg's passing, I gave it a quick re-read over the weekend and as a "tease," here's a snippet from the beginning of the tale:
Claudia knew that she could never pull off the old-fashioned kind of running away.  That is, running away in the heat of anger with a knapsack on her back.  She didn't like discomfort; even picnics were untidy and inconvenient: all those insects and the sun melting the icing on the cupcakes. Therefore, she decided that her leaving home would not be just running from somewhere but would be running to somewhere.  To a large place, a comfortable place, an indoor place, and preferably a beautiful place.  And that's why she decided upon the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Good book.  But I used to work in a museum, and it was definitely spooky after all the visitors and staff left for the day -- so I'm not really sure about living in a museum, even for a short time.  Still -- good book.

Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by mizB at Should Be Reading. If you'd like to read more teasers, or take part yourself, just head on over to her blog.

  2. This was one of Brianna's favorite books growing up. I read it a couple of years ago and found it to be good but it wouldn't have been one of my favorite as a child.

  3. Oh, this one is going on my list! And for the record: the knapsack on the back was never my idea of how to run away, either...lol.

  7. Great minds think alike! I only just heard of her passing last night, so when I finished the book I was reading, pulled this one off the shelf today for a reread. Like you, I read it years ago and remember liking it. But...Now I think I'll have to choose a different teaser for next week, seeing as you used the first paragraph as I had planned to do. 8. I absolutely loved this book, read when I taught sixth grade. The kids liked it, too. Sorry to hear of Konigsburg's death. I think I gave my copy of this book away but, if not, I will pull it out for old time's sake!

Welcome and thanks for leaving me a comment. I love to hear from visitors.

Also, please note that while I appreciate the thought, I don't play the blog awards game. I think you all deserve awards! But you might think about becoming a follower of my blog -- that would really be the best award.
