Teaser Tuesdays: The Weird Sisters

This week my teaser lines come from Eleanor Brown's The Weird Sisters. The quote is taken from page 23 of the ARC, so please remember that the published version (due out in February) might differ a bit. In this snippet, the sisters are explaining about their family's two vices - disorder and literature:
We were never organized readers who would see a book through to its end in any sort of logical order. We weave in and out of words like tourists on a hop-on, hop-off bus tour. Put a book down in the kitchen to go to the bathroom and you might return to find it gone, replaced by another of equal interest.
They put their books down to go to the bathroom? And they call themselves dedicated book people?

Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by mizB at Should Be Reading. If you'd like to read more teasers, or take part yourself, just head on over to her blog.

And please feel free to leave me a link to your Teaser Tuesday post in a comment here.

  6. I love this teaser! Love the image of the books disappearing. Don't get me wrong, it would drive me nuts, but it's magical in this context. :) Nice teaser. Mine is at The Crowded Leaf.

  9. Oh this sounds like a really fun read, just the title makes me want to read it. I LOL when I read the bathroom statement, if it is a good book it goes to the bathroom as well in my house. I will be putting this one on my TRB list for sure.

  15. Here is my teaser from Lipstick in Afghanistan by Roberta Gately (Page 1):

"Do you hear it?" The voice was almost a whisper.

Elsa held her breath, and then she heard it too, a faint rustling of footsteps over twigs and leaves. Out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed several shadowy figures darting through the trees, and when she turned, she saw a glint of sunlight reflecting off the barrel of an assault rifle.

There was no denying it—the Taliban had found them.

Oh, Jesus! she thought. We'll never escape.

Elsa knew the Taliban's ruthless hatred; the death and destruction they wrought was undeniable.

Seized by a sickening wave of fear, she wanted to cry or throw up, but there was no time. She tried to catch Parween's eye, but her friend was looking back, intent on finding the source of the sound.

"Run!" someone shouted, and suddenly, the chase was on.

  17. Forget putting the book to go to the bathroom... girl who would swipe the book???? I'd be hunting them down first!

  18. Even though I agree that the concept of putting the book down is weird (and I'm with Aisle B, I'd be hunting down whoever swiped it if I did put it down), I love this teaser. Great description!

  19. Even if not reading start to finish would drive me crazy, the characters sound like women I would want to know. And that image of reading link a tour bus made me laugh, thanks for making my day better!

My teaser this week is about cookbooks and Christmas cookies: http://ksbooks.wordpress.com/2010/12/21/teaser-tuesday-23/

Welcome and thanks for leaving me a comment. I love to hear from visitors.

Also, please note that while I appreciate the thought, I don't play the blog awards game. I think you all deserve awards! But you might think about becoming a follower of my blog -- that would really be the best award.
