Tuesday at LibraryThing

Here's this week's question for the Tuesday Thingers group (sorry, I still cringe when I hear that name):

. . . how many books do you have cataloged in your LibraryThing account? How do you decide what to include – everything you have, everything you've read – and are there things you leave off?

I'm still in the process of cataloguing all my books – I tend to do it in fits and starts, and at odd hours. So far, I've got a little over 600 books listed. It's slow going, but as soon as my CueCat shows up, I expect the work to speed up quite a bit.

Well, I should say all our books because, as I said on my LT profile, some of the books were actually acquired by my husband, some by myself, and some by the two of us together. I only list books we own – not library books, or books I intend to buy or would like to buy. I have a "wish list" of books that I keep separately, in one of my journals, but I wouldn't include those books in my LT listing.

I'm cataloguing all the books we own – not just the ones I've read. I figure we've got at least a couple thousand books here at home with us, and something over a thousand more in storage.

I think if I got rid of one of the books that I'd catalogued, I'd delete the title from my listing. Which means, I suppose, that I'll have to hold on to all the books I post reviews of – not that many, so far. But it hasn't become a problem yet and I don't think it will, since getting rid of books isn't something I do very often!

TuesdayThingers is hosted by Boston Bibliophile.

  1. You are getting a cuecat? That is very cool.

  2. I'm slowly adding my books too and it's amazing how much time it takes. My answer's very like yours - I include my husband's books too. I've moved my blog to here.

  3. I am going to order a cuecat tonight. I signed up for LT with the intention of adding all of my books and stopped about a 1/4 of the way in. I now have to pay for my subscription and order a cuecat to continue! I actually stopped being obsessed with cataloging all of my books when I started participating in the groups.

  4. I didn't even think about adding my husband's books. He has some really cool stuff that I've never gotten into like Richard Brautigan (although I have read In Watermelon Sugar), Anais Nin, etc... His books are our books now (and vice versa) and I'm the only one who currently is reading.

Now about that cuecat thing... Must find out more...

  7. I don't have a cue cat yet I'll probably get one when I get to the spare room book boxes.

I list the books I own in whatever format they come, or I will do, I have about 180 e-books yet to put in. Can't face it at the moment though so I'll just carry on reading for a while.

  8. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Yes, it's quite amazing the amount of dust books attract! There was some series on PBS about the world without us and they showed how the dust (the mites that live in dust, actually) will eventually doom a book to dust if we let it. Gruesome thought!

Good luck adding in your books. I'm sure the cuecat will help.

  9. I recently ran into the problem of whether to delete an ER book from my account when I decided to give it away. I ended up deciding to keep the listing and mark it as no longer being in my library. Like you though, my library account is a combination of my husband's and my books--all books we own. I also keep a separate wish list unrelated to LT.

Welcome and thanks for leaving me a comment. I love to hear from visitors.

Also, please note that while I appreciate the thought, I don't play the blog awards game. I think you all deserve awards! But you might think about becoming a follower of my blog -- that would really be the best award.
